Whole-home interior repaint — Columbia open plan

Open-plan homes are a different animal than room-by-room repaints. One color decision lives across living, dining, and kitchen — get it wrong and the whole house feels off. Our customer here had been staring at builder-grade flat white for six years and wanted something warmer that worked with the wood floors and the dark island.

We did a color consultation on day one — three sample swatches up on the wall, viewed at morning, midday, and evening light. The customer landed on a soft warm white that read clean against the wood without going stark. Trim got a brighter true-white in a higher sheen for contrast.

Walls got Sherwin-Williams Cashmere — a matte finish that hides imperfections in a high-traffic open plan and still wipes clean. Trim and doors got Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel, hand-brushed for the smooth furniture-grade feel and to avoid the spray-stipple you see on every builder-grade door.

Five days on-site with the family living in the house. We moved and re-covered furniture each day, masked floors with rosin paper plus drop cloths, and cleaned daily so the kitchen and main bedroom were usable every night. Two coats throughout, final walk-through Friday afternoon, keys back by 5pm.
